Civil Geotech Specialist (CGS) was engaged to provide expert geotechnical advice for a residential development in a Landslide Hazard Overlay zone under Moreton Bay Regional Council. Our role was to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective outcomes for the client.

Our Approach

Detailed Desktop Study: Geological mapping, hazard overlays, and historical site data.

Geotechnical Assessment – SPS 86 Wet Well, Tanby Road

Civil Geotech Specialist (CGS) was engaged by Utilstra to conduct an independent geotechnical review during the construction of Sewer Pump Station SPS 86, part of the Taroomball Trunk Sewer upgrade works in Yeppoon, Queensland.

Our Approach

Site Inspection:

Observed caisson at 5.5 m depth; noted minor tilt within tolerance.
Inspected auger spoil, trench material, and wet well base post-dewatering.
In-situ test trench excavation and inspection.

Data Review:

Compared site observations with historic bore log and design documentation.
Reviewed NATA-accredited Point Load Strength Test results for rock fragments.

Geological Context:

Site underlain by colluvium and slope wash deposits with proximity to Wandilla Formation (mudstone, chert, sandstone).

Findings

Material Characteristics:

Encountered frequent high-strength cobbles and dense gravel matrix.
Point Load Strength Index (Is₅₀) indicated High to Very High strength.

Difference from Previous Investigation:

Historic logs described sandy clay and fine gravel; actual conditions included large cobbles and strong rock fragments, impacting excavation effort.

Difficult Topography Overlay - Redbank Plains

Civil Geotech Specialist (CGS) was engaged by BSD Property Group to undertake a Landslide Hazard Inspection and Slope Risk Assessment for a residential subdivision within Ipswich City Council’s (ICC) Difficult Topography Overlay. The goal was to ensure safe, compliant development while mitigating geotechnical risks.

Our Approach

Desktop Study:

Geological mapping (Silkstone Formation – clay-rich, high shrink-swell potential).
ICC hazard overlay review and historical site data.

Site Investigation:

Visual slope inspection and DCP testing for subsurface strength.
Assessment of drainage patterns, vegetation, and existing structures.

Qualitative landslide risk assessment using AGS 2007 Guidelines.
